Description

This continuing education program provides financial professionals and advisors with an overview of the retirement savings challenges facing American workers, recent legislative changes introduced through the SECURE Act and SECURE 2.0 Act, and the growing landscape of state-mandated retirement programs. The course examines required and optional SECURE 2.0 provisions, employer compliance obligations, state retirement mandates, tax incentives, and practical strategies for helping business clients implement retirement plan solutions while expanding advisory opportunities

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe the purpose and impact of the SECURE Act and SECURE 2.0 Act on retirement plan coverage and retirement readiness in the United States.

  2. Identify key state-mandated retirement plan requirements and explain employer compliance options, including participation in state-sponsored programs or adoption of private retirement plans.

  3. Explain major SECURE 2.0 provisions, including automatic enrollment, expanded long-term part-time employee eligibility, Roth catch-up contribution requirements, and required minimum distribution (RMD) changes.

  4. Evaluate optional SECURE 2.0 plan features such as student loan matching, Roth employer contributions, emergency savings accounts, and emergency withdrawal provisions.

  5. Apply SECURE 2.0 and state mandate concepts in client conversations to help employers improve retirement plan offerings, remain compliant, and enhance employee recruitment and retention.
